  1. UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN , OYO – 1948

    The University of Ibadan started off as the University College, Ibadan (UCI) with 144 students in 1948, with its first site at Eleyele. It is the is the oldest university in Nigeria. It is now located five miles (8 kilometres) from the centre of the major city of Ibadan in Western Nigeria. It is the only University founded before Nigeria’s Independence with the first Indigenous Vice chancellor of a University in Nigeria being Mr. Kenneth Dike.

    University of Nigeria, Nsukka is the first university in the eastern part of Nigeria. It was official opened on the 7th of October, 1960 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II represented By Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Kent during her Independence Day Celebration visit. It is also the first Nigeria’s autonomous and full-fledged Indigenous University, with three campuses at Nsukka, Enugu and Ituku Ozalla.
